The weigh of medical issues should not be carried by the doctor alone. Patients should do their own research in order to better understand the diagnosis the doctor presents. Patients also have to do their part during recovery to facilitate the best case outcome. If a patient undergoes a spinal fusion, they need to follow the protocol to allow the fusion to take, not go out and break-dance the day they are out of the OR. Doctors cannot be expected to keep up with every new surgical technique, so again the patients have to become at least basically educated in their medical issue. It's the old 'you get out of it what you put into it philosophy'.
